How to Connect Your Author Instagram and Facebook

Connecting your Instagram and Facebook lets you cross-post, see your insights in one place, and run ads across both from a single setup. The process is straightforward once two requirements are in place, and the requirement authors most often miss is that you have to be an admin on the Facebook Page. This guide covers what you need first, the methods that work in 2026, and what to do when the connection will not hold.

What you need before you connect

Two things have to be true before you can connect your Instagram and Facebook. Your Instagram account has to be professional, meaning a Business or Creator account, because a personal account cannot connect to a Page. And you need to be an admin with full control of the Facebook Page. Meta requires Page admin rights for the connection as a security measure, so if someone else set up your Page, confirm your access before you start.

How to connect your Instagram and Facebook

There are three methods, and any one of them completes the connection. Pick whichever account you have open.

Method 1, from the Instagram app: Go to your profile, tap Edit profile, and under Public business information tap Page. Log in to Facebook, choose the Page you want, and tap Next.

Method 2, from your Facebook Page: Open your Page, go to Settings, click Linked accounts, select Instagram, and click Connect account.

Method 3, from Meta Business Suite: Open Settings, find your connected accounts, and connect the Instagram account to the Page.

You only need to do this once. There is no need to repeat it in the other methods.

What to Watch Out For

The admin rule catches people. If the connect option is greyed out or throws an error, the usual cause is that you are not a full admin of the Page, or your Instagram is still a personal account. Fix those two first.

Connecting is not the same as giving your marketer access. Linking the platforms shares posting and insights. It does not add a person to your accounts. Access is a separate step, covered in the marketer-access guides.

One Instagram connects to one Page. If your Instagram is linked to the wrong Page, disconnect it there first, then connect the correct one.

What comes next

Once you connect your Instagram and Facebook, the next step is usually giving your marketer access to each. See How to Add a Marketer to Your Author Facebook Page and How to Add a Marketer to Your Author Instagram. If your Page is not set up yet, start with How to Set Up a Facebook Page for Authors. The Author Onboarding Bootcamp covers the full sequence.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a professional Instagram account to connect?

Yes. Only a Business or Creator account can connect to a Facebook Page. A personal Instagram account cannot link, so switch to professional first if you have not already.

Why will my accounts not connect?

The two usual causes are that you are not a full admin of the Facebook Page, or your Instagram is still a personal account. Confirm both before trying again.

Does connecting let my marketer post for me?

No. Connecting shares cross-posting and insights between the two platforms. It does not give anyone access to your accounts. Adding a marketer is a separate step.

Can I connect one Instagram to several Facebook Pages?

No. An Instagram account connects to one Page at a time. To move it, disconnect from the current Page first, then connect to the one you want.

Should I connect in the app or on desktop?

Either works. Use whichever account you currently have admin access on. The connection is the same once it is made.
